Verizon is recommencing its Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout to the Samsung Galaxy S5. Its initial release in January was cut short without warning. The company did not say why, but there is word that several issues surfaced in the first phase of its rollout.
Now, it looks like the carrier is ready to dress up the 2014 Samsung flagship with the new software.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop," the company announced via its official website just recently. "This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables. The new material design offers complex animations, 3-D views and improved runtime."
There are not many changes from what the company released two months ago other than a new build number (G900VVRU1BOA4) and two added features called the Download Booster and Interruptions, which block calls and leave out the important ones once activated by lowering the volume. There are two alternate build numbers for Verizon's Android 5.0 Lollipop: G900VVRU1BOA8 and a newer one, G900VVRU1BOC4.
Major changes to expect, of course, start with the interface, which will now be overhauled with Material Design, which is best for its fluid animations and vibrant colors. The lockscreen will put Phone and Camera shortcuts on view. Android 5.0 Lollipop will also give the Galaxy S5 the feature called Touchwiz, which provides major design changes. Users will find convenience in the new multi-window icons and easy access to Chrome tabs. Lastly, the operating system integrates the floating Action Button, which will make it easy for users to do regular tasks such as adding a new contact and composing a text message.
Those who got their Samsung Galaxy S5 from Verizon should be prompted to install the update any moment. If not, they can check the phone's settings and manually initiate the download.
Meanwhile, Verizon's Lollipop rollout leaves AT&T as the sole carrier that has yet to bring the software to the S5 users under its network.
