Sony Zperia Z4 and Z3 to get Android Lollipop 5.0 updates, not Zperia E or M Series

The next device to get the Android Lollipop treatment is the whole line-up of Sony's Z smartphones. The plans of the Japan-based firm was unraveled when it apologized via Twitter to a user who queried (hoped, to be precise) about its plans on dressing up last year's 4.8-inch Xperia M2 with the sweet stuff.

Sony also made sure to inform inquiring users rocking the tech giant's Xperia E and M Series that Android Lollipop is not jumping to their handsets. Expectedly, this stimulated an outcry for what was deemed to be an unfair move by the company.

The resolution almost made some users feel that they are fated to miss the Lollipop boat. The puzzling part is that the ineligible handsets cannot be even tagged as old or maturing to end up in Sony's list of handsets not qualified to get the new OS. Most of them actually are flagships of their respective arrays.

But since Sony has yet to retract the announcement, it looks like the only way to own a Sony M series handset with the new firmware is by scoring the all-new Sony Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone, which is shipped with Android Lollipop. If that cannot be done, Z series models are the ones Sony faithfuls can go for.

The Lollipop-qualified lineup runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat. But with the Android Lollipop, users can enjoy the vibrant visuals and animations brought by the new Material Design interface. They will also see concrete improvements on the connectivity and the battery life of the phones. Notifications can be viewed from the lock screen and users will enjoy their newfound ability to hide sensitive content for the notifications. The revamped Quick Settings can now be summoned after two swipes while Android TV and OK Google will now be at every Xperia Z smartphone owner's disposal. Device Sharing, which gives room to multiple users of the phone, is now onboard. This is paired up with the Android Smart Lock, which adds better security for the device by having it paired with a wearable or a car.
