Apps on a Mac or PC? Before Google entered the fray, that could be possible with a lot of tinkering or work-arounds. Now however, such has been made easier with the help of Google's new tool called the Arc Welder.
The Arc Welder acts as a wrapper around Android apps which allow them to run on Windows, Mac and even Linux. Not only does the tool give mobile users a bigger and better way of using or playing apps, it could also help out developers in their coding and scripting used on any of the mentioned machines. This is with the understanding that they are run natively and not through the aid of any third party software that is.
Arc is an App Runtime designed for Chrome which was released way back in 2014. That app was designed to help Android apps run on the Google Chrome operating system.
This time around the Arc Welder converts Android apps into versions compatible with the Google Chrome browser. With the new app, Arc Welder also provides support for many Google Play services, maintaining the usual access to payment systems, maps and more.
With regards to performance, the developer documentation explains that converted apps will still run as fast and stable similar to how they do when used on mobile phones or tablets. Apparently with bigger specs such as wider resolution, this bit should address all those questions in mind.
On a side note, the release of the said app is also to aid developers in creating apps for a wider niche. Though there are questions surrounding that angle, the release of the Arc Welder could somehow ease the burden of that goal among the app developers.
