Nexus 4, 5 and Nexus 9 LTE receive Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update

Nexus 5 is ready for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop! Google website

The latest version of Android Lollipop is on the way to Google's LTE-powered devices, namely the Nexus 4, the Nexus 5, and the Nexus 9. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is being sent over the air and owners of the aforementioned handsets should keep an eye out for a notification prompt for the download, which can be expected to arrive before long.

Of course, OTA updates do not take place in one go. They only seep slowly until they reach all owners. The same goes for this Android 5.1.1 Lollipop rollout so it would not hurt to check the availability of the software by heading to the settings and the System Updates portion of the Nexus handsets.

Android Police has also made a Google-certified OTA update file available for download. As for the owners of the HTC-made Nexus 9, the site cautions that the tablet should be updated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop before it makes its jump to the 5.1.1 Lollipop version.

Once updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the Nexus 4 will have build number LMY47V, the Nexus 5 will get LMY48B, and the Nexus 9 LTE will don LRX22L. Unfortunately, a changelog for the update has yet to be made available although the software is touted to eliminate bugs and stabilize the devices' performance.

This may also mean that the ever-notorious memory leak, which has troubled and distressed users who updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 5.1 Lollipop, will finally be defeated and gone for good. This and other important bug fixes that will improve the Nexus devices' security and camera are included in the update. Owners, however, should expect no new features to go along with the update as it was made to fix bugs. Besides, the update is only at 24 MB.
