One year after it was officially released, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will finally be made available at Sony. The update will be available this February, 2015 but the catch is that it will only cover devices under the Sony Xperia Z series.

This development was announced during the CES 2015 by Sony president Mike Fasulo who confirmed that the Android update will come by the end of February.

Hence, among the models that will be covered in Sony's Z series include that of Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. Expected to follow are other handsets such as the ZL, ZR, Z1S, Z Ultra, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z3v.

Sony had actually started to test the Android 5.0 OS some months back, targeted at Sony Xperia Z3 owners to allow them to familiarize themselves with the new operating system. Among the new features include that of a UI and other tweaks that should help improve the phone's performance.

One of the other features will include an improved notification system. With the latest Android 5.0 OS, users will be able to manage notification messages.

However, one of the improvements bound to appeal to users it that they will be able to enjoy a prolonged battery life. Battery usage has become a problem for most smartphone users and it should be interesting to see how the Android 5.0 Lollipop will improve the current battery usage and life of the affected Sony Experia Z handsets.

Though no actual date of availability was bared, users can keep tabs of the update via OTA or monitor their settings and software update menu. Though many believe it could come at the end of February, you never know when the Android update could be made available way ahead of the rumored availability date.
