'American Horror Story' season 5 news and updates: What is known so far

Every time a season of "American Horror Story" draws to a close, there's a lot of talk on what the next season would be about. Thus, even before season 4 ended, there were already speculations on what season 5 would bring. However, "American Horror Story: Freak Show" concluded and fans still couldn't put a finger on what show creator Ryan Murphy had up his sleeves.

Murphy gave a clue that the fifth season would have something to do with a top hat, which many speculated to be a magician show-kind of theme. There were also rumors that it would be about the military's Operation Top Hat. It was a huge shock, therefore, when singer Lady Gaga broke the news over at Twitter that she would not only be a series regular for the fifth season, but that the next installment will be called "American Horror Story: Hotel."

In Lady Gaga's tweet, she said, "Make your reservation now. #GagaAHSHotel."

It was posted together with a video that unveiled the title of the new season. However, there is still no confirmation as to what role Lady Gaga will play in the series. Speculations point to one that involves music.

As for the other cast members, reports say that the regular cast is returning for season 5, except for Jessica Lange.

Meanwhile, there's still that question of how "Hotel" is intertwined with the other seasons. Murphy admitted that all seasons are interconnected and all the worlds are intertwined.

"They're all connected. We're just beginning to tell you how they're connected. They're all very separate but there's clues every season that we're now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined," Murphy told Entertainment Weekly

So, what about the top hat mystery? It appears that the top hat is still connected to the hotel storyline. Fans have surmised that it is in reference to the 1935 musical comedy "Top Hat," which was set in a hotel. Could this mean that the "AHS: Hotel" will actually be a full-on musical?

Answers are forthcoming as "American Horror Story: Hotel" season 5 starts filming in July and will premiere in October.
