AMD Vega 10 GPU release date, news, specs rumors: fixed for 2016 launch; GPU to destroy Nvidia's Titan X

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is not resting on its laurels after the successful release of its Polaris 10 graphics cards. The next-generation AMD Vega 10 graphics processing unit (GPU) is already expected to show up before 2016 ends.

According to Wccftech, the Sunnyvale-based semiconductor company is already working on the AMD Vega 10 GPU, which will be built for the AMD Radeon 500 series.

AMD Global Marketing and Public Relations for Radeon Technologies Group senior director Chris Hook posted a photo on Facebook showing the launch venue for the AMD Vega 10.

This GPU will be the very first one from AMD to be built on the all-new Graphics Core Next (GCN) graphics architecture and the ninth generation collection of visual IP.

The graphics card to be based on the AMD Vega 10 — the Pro Duo — is believed to come with 4096 next-generation V9 cores with 12 teraflops. This AMD Vega 10 GPU-based graphics card should beat the Nvidia GTX Titan X Pascal.

It is also expected to come with 16GB HBM2 (High Bandwidth Memory), a 2048-bit memory bus, 512GB per second bandwidth and 230W thermal design power (TDP). All these numbers double that of RX 480, which is already deemed excellent.

The AMD Vega 10 GPU is also said to be capable of handling 4K resolution gaming, which is not a shock seeing its impressive specs sheet.

A specific release date for the AMD Vega 10 GPU is yet to be revealed, although fans can count on seeing it in the flesh before the year ends. A previous report suggested an October launch, though, so fans might be close to the launch than they expect.

Whenever the AMD Vega 10 GPU will see the light of day, it will be released alongside upgrade versions of its original Polaris 10 releases, which include the AMD Radeon RX 485, RX 475, and the RX 465.

Apart from the Vega 10, AMD is also working on a higher-end Vega 11 GPU set for release early next year.
