PC gamers and VR enthusiasts are getting excited as the day draws near for the much-awaited release of the Polaris-based AMD RX 480. The latest offering by AMD is scheduled to arrive on June 29.

The soon-to-be-available video card contains either 4GB or 8GB of GDDDR5 VRAM and is based on the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. The AMD RX 480 will pack 2,304 GCN cores, 36 compute units and 256-bit memory bus. It also offers a base clock of 1080 MHz, a boosted clock of 1266 MHz, a single HDMI 2.0 and three DisplayPort 1.4 ports. It can produce more than 5 TeraFLOPS metric, as previously reported.

WCCFTech exclusively reported that an overclocked AMD RX 480 exists somewhere in Asia which can hit a top clock speed of 1607 MHz. The report also mentioned that AMD will soon be launching a new OC (overclocking) tool that will host cool features for the gaming daredevils. A voltage control will be included.

The publication also mentioned that XFX, a tech manufacturing company, will be releasing an 8GB RX 480 reference card that offers a 1328 MHz boost clock speed straight out of the box. Gamers do not need to tweak or adjust anything on it. Sapphire, another player in the reference graphics card field, is also set to produce their own version of the card but no technical detail is currently available. It is known, though, that the company will add a custom back plate for their own version for extra heat dissipation..

Yibada reported that XFX RX 480 will retail for US$249, while Sapphire and Powercolor reference cards may go as high as US$299.

Reference cards will be available shortly after AMD has officially released its RX 480 graphics card.

The RX 480 will be available by June 29 with a US$199 retail price for the 4GB variant and US$230 retail price for the 8GB variant.
