Acer Swift 7 price, specs: Once again the 'thinnest laptop in the world'

Acer proclaims its Swift 7 Ultrabook as the thinnest laptop in the world. Acer

Acer updates its Swift 7 Ultrabook, giving it an even thinner chassis -- from the previous 10 mm, to now just 8.9 mm -- making it once again the thinnest laptop in the world.

Despite the thinness, Acer was still able to squeeze in an Intel XMM cellular modem, giving it an integrated always-on 4G LTE connectivity. It has a Nano SIM slot as well as eSIM technology, with the option to get mobile plans from carriers globally.

Swift 7 has yet to get upgraded to the latest eighth-generation processor, but it does have the seventh-generation Core i7. As for memory, it sports 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of PCIe SSD storage -- exceptional, yet a tad lower than competitors. It will run on Windows 10.

The ultrabook has also upgraded its 13.3-inch screen to 14-inch, although still with a 1080p resolution.

The announcement of the upgraded Swift 7 Ultrabook comes in time as CES 2018, a world gathering for businesses of consumer technologies.

Tech experts are quick to note, however, that while Swift 7 has got it down on the thinness, it is hard not to be blinded by the launch price, which is at $1,699. That is considering many laptops nowadays sport much better Intel processors, more RAM and storage space, as well as higher resolution touch screens, at an even better price point.

The Dell latest XPS 13, for example, starts at only $799, while the premium computer Lenovo Yoga 920 starts at $1,199.

The Swift 7, however, has the combination of an easy-to-carry laptop and the 4G LTE connectivity, which is still currently very rare in the market.

The Acer Swift 7 Ultrabook launches in March.

Meantime, Acer also revealed an update to its casual gaming laptop, Nitro 5, at CES 2018. It now sports an AMD Radeon RX560 graphics card as well as AMD's latest Ryzen mobile processors.

The tech company also introduced its Chromebook 11, which sports an 11.6-inch display, available in touch screen. It will be launched at $249 in April.
