9 Bible verses for when you're heartbroken and looking for healing

If we're loving like Jesus taught us to, we shouldn't be looking for the ones we love to let us down or anticipating the moment they hurt us. But, that being said, there will be times in our lives when the ones we love break our hearts.

You might be feeling heartbroken as you read this because your close friend has taken you for granted for the umpteenth time, or maybe your spouse has acted in a way that's really betrayed your trust.

True love and a genuine belief in God's grace means that, regardless of how you feel at this precise moment, you'll have to work towards forgiveness.

But doing so doesn't mean neglecting the need to heal the hurt in other ways.

We can rest assured that when we give our hearts to God, He will take great care of them. But when they do get broken by other means, He is there to heal and restore them.

Spending some time going over how precious your heart is to God and how it's renewed through your relationship with Him will help you on the road to recovery. Heartbreak can feel permanent but God shows us that there is hope for us to experience healing if we pursue Him and pour our hearts out to Him.

Psalm 147:3 - He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

1 Peter 2:24 - "He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed."

Psalm 34:18 - The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 71:20 - Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

Ephesians 6:13 - Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Lamentations 3:22 - Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

1 Kings 8:39 - Then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart).

Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
