Next week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, "An Eternity of Misery," will mark the return of another beloved character to the final season of the vampire drama.

Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) was last seen in the season 7 finale of the series, although he made an appearance in the third season of "The Originals" where he dealt with Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Finn (Caspar Zafer).

After accidentally killing his wife in the previous season of "The Vampire Diaries" and the supernatural war becoming more irrepressible, Matt chose to leave Mystic Falls to start a new life.

However, it looks like he has not completely escaped his past, and he will be thrust into the same old dangerous game he was avoiding come "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 4.

The synopsis for the exciting installment teases that he will be roped back into the scene "after his past and present collide in an unexpected way."

For a refresher, Matt was last seen in "The Vampire Diaries" in the episode called "Gods and Monsters," where he was abducted by a crazed Bonnie (Kat Graham).

They were going after her victims in a car when it rams into a forest area, which causes Bonnie to return to her normal self and Matt to hallucinate about his dead wife Penny (Ana Nogueira), who urged him to get out of Mystic Falls.

There is no way of knowing what the next episode entails for Matt, but he will realize that once someone becomes involved in the supernatural world, there is no going back. The synopsis for episode 5, "Coming Home Was A Mistake," teases that Matt will still be around.

Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 4 will also see Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Alaric (Matt Davis) find a way to save Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The former tries to work things out by speaking to Sybil (Nathalie Kelley).

Clearly, the baddie is not the kind to talk things through, but she did say a few things — ominous ones at that. She revealed she has a sister outside and that Stefan is "as doomed as" his brother. The promo for the episode teases that him confronting her will lead the younger Salvatore in serious trouble.

Sybil then sends Damon to recover an artifact in Texas in the upcoming episode, which leads him to a blue collar guy named Peter Maxwell (guest star Joel Gretsch).

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 4, "An Eternity of Misery," airs on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
