'Sense8' season 2 premiere in early 2017? what to expect

Sense8 Netflix

One of the most critically acclaimed Netflix original series was last year's "Sense8" and it was speculated that Netflix would fast-track a second season. However, cinematographer John Toll recently spoke with The Film Stage and revealed that production doesn't even properly begin until this March, hinting a delay in season 2's release.

"I  think so. We're talking about it. It's just sort of starting to fall into place with scheduling and everything," Toll replied when asked if he was returning for the second season before confirming when production would actually begin. "They're talking about March."

If that proves true and the schedule is followed as planned it would take roughly seven months for the studios to get everything wrapped up and done, given that the first season was also produced in a matter of seven months. However, season 2 may take even longer given the larger scope and possibly more global locations to film in.

With that said, an estimated seven months would mean the show would not premiere this June but instead, at the earliest, would launch by October. This may not happen given that Netflix may already have several shows scheduled to launch by that time, such as "Narcos" season 2 or any of its Marvel series.

That being said, it is possible that "Sense8" will instead launch by the end of the year or by early 2017. Netflix has been known to be lenient with slow productions, such as that of "Fargo," in order to maintain a high level of quality with its original series and this may also apply with "Sense8" season 2.

Unfortunately, until the studios or the Wachowski siblings confirm any official release window, this all remains as pure speculation based on Toll's word. Fans have pointed out that it is possible several scenes may have already been filmed during the Christmas holidays and this may reduce the time needed during production.
