Florida Gators coach Billy Donovan is once again being eyed by at least two NBA teams, the Orlando Magic and the Denver Nuggets. Both teams are now handled by interim coaches and word has it that both are looking to hire a head coach for next season. And at the top of the possible coaches for both teams is Donovan.
Donovan was recently given a new contract by the Gators but it may all depend on him in the end. For the Gators, it will be another instance of trying to thwart NBA teams from getting their prized coach.
Last year, Donovan was also being eyed by two NBA teams. They were the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Gators were able to weather that storm and now it remains to be seen if they can do it again.
As far as the Orlando Magic is concerned, it remains to be seen if they can come up with something better to convince Donovan to join them. If true, this would be the Magic's second attempt to sign Donovan, having tried it several years ago.
At that time, the Magic were all set but Donovan backed out at the last minute to remain with the Gators. Can the Magic be successful the second time around?
At present, the Gators have a lock on Donovan until 2020 though an irresistible deal from any NBA ballclub could change all that in an instant. Donovan is not actually a superstar coach but it is apparent that there is a call for him to take his coaching wizardry to the next level.
There could be a lot of teams looking for a new head coach aside from the Magic and Nuggets. There is also the Minnesota Timberwolves and possibly the Chicago Bulls. Could any of them interest Donovan?
