While the original manga has already concluded, the anime adaptation for "Naruto Shippuden" has yet to reach its finale, with the final episode set to be an hour-long special.

The Fourth Ninja War has been concluded, with both Madara and Kaguya being bested with the combined effort of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. Now that Team 7 has already returned to their own time and space (Kaguya has the power to bend space) with the Summoning Jutsu cast by the Six-Path Sage, Sasuke has announced his intention to be the Hokage. However, his thoughts on how to go about it are very much different from the other predecessors, as he wants to take control of all the Tailed Beasts, including Kurama.

With his intentions already clear, Naruto is prepared to fight Sasuke. However, similar to how he tried to rescue his friend previously, Naruto also announced clear intentions to fight and save his old friend from suffering and not to end his life.

The two fighters will then try to best each other in the valley where they first dueled, reminiscent of Naruto's first attempt to rescue Sasuke. Similar to their first fight, Sasuke is fighting to kill, and Naruto is fighting to save. However, Naruto is now fighting not just to save Sasuke, but also the Tailed Beasts which he has already befriended.

Meanwhile, the culmination of the anime adaptation is expected to happen in episode 476, as the upcoming premiere has been confirmed to be a one-hour long special. It is unclear, however, if the anime adaptation will continue on. In the original manga, the "Naruto" franchise has jumped well ahead after the Naruto-Sasuke fight. The continuation sees Naruto being the Seventh Hokage (after Kakashi), while Sasuke roams the world trying to find his salvation for past crimes.
