Kpop news: Song Joong Ki makes first public appearance after wedding at 2017 MAMA in Hong Kong

Fresh from his honeymoon, Korean drama sensation Song Joong Ki makes his first public appearance after his wedding at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Hong Kong.

The actor married actress Song Hye Kyo in a lavish Seoul wedding on Oct. 31, which was followed by a lovely honeymoon across Europe. It was earlier reported that both of them were attending the prestigious awards night, but looks like the 36-year-old actress opted to stay in Seoul.

The "Descendants of the Sun" actor arrived in Hong Kong on Nov. 30, and was welcomed with dozens of cameras shuttering away, despite using a "secret passageway" at the airport. Chinese media were quick to note that the actor has gained weight, but proudly waved toward the cameras, sporting his wedding ring.

On Dec. 1, he hosted the last leg of this year's MAMA.

Themed "Coexistence," the week-long affair was held in three Asian regions -- Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City), Japan (Yokohama), and Hong Kong -- from Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. It was the first MAMA ceremony to be held across three locations.

The 2017 MAMA gathered South Korea's hottest and biggest acts -- BTS, EXO, Super Junior, BoA, Red Velvet, Sunmi, Taemin, Heize, Bolbbalgan, Got7, Day6, Twice, IU, Wanna One, Seventeen, Pristin, Nu'Est, Monsta X, and more -- for a week of music and culture.

It also awarded this year's MAMA winners, based on a month-long online voting after the nominees were announced on Oct. 19.

The body's most prestigious award is called Daesang, or grand prize. It was awarded in three categories.

Girl group Twice received the Daesang Song of the Year for their hit single "Signal," which was released last May. SM Entertainment's EXO won Daesang Album of the Year for its fourth studio album "The War."

The highest award, Daesang Artist of the Year, was awarded to seven-member boy group Bangtan Boys or BTS. The group broke World Records earlier this month for having the most Twitter engagements, following their performance at the American Music Awards.
