Expect to see a darker, more dangerous Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) in the third episode of "Gotham" season 2.

In a sneak peek of the episode titled "The Last Laugh," the ever-smiling but ruthless Jerome is seen torturing his blind father Paul Cicero (Mark Margolis) while ranting about his awful childhood.

Jerome recalls an instance during his ninth birthday, when his dad saw him crying right outside their trailer after being beaten by his drunk mom and her lover. He reminds his father that he asked him why he was crying, Jerome's answer to which was "It's my birthday, and my mom and the snake guy are beating me." But his dad only told him that nobody cared about him or anyone else in the world, so he should just get used to it.

Paul tried to plead with Jerome, saying that he may be a bad father but he loves him. However, Jerome no longer wants to believe him and says that he has met a man who trust his potentials to become a star, and the rest of Gotham will see him shine except his father.

Jerome is probably talking about the event that will happen later that night, when his group the Maniax will turn the Gotham Children's Hospital gala magic show into a chaotic hostage situation.

Based on the promo images released by FOX for the episode, the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and his guardian Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) are present during the gala night. Bruce will participate in the magic show, and then the supposedly magical event turns into a nightmare.

The images also show Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in action after Jerome and the rest of The Maniax attacked the officers of the Gotham City Police Department in last week's episode. According to the synopsis for "The Last Laugh," Jim and Jerome will have a standoff in the upcoming episode. Will Jim manage to stop the future mortal enemy of Bruce Wayne from causing more destruction in the present Gotham City?

"Gotham" season 2 episode 3 airs Monday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
