8 scriptures that assure us there is freedom in Jesus

There is no clamor greater than the clamor for freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom to vote, religious freedom, freedom to love whomever we want. Everyone wants freedom. But what is freedom, really? Is freedom found in the liberty to choose as we please? Aren't we at that point still slaves to our own desires and choices?

The Bible teaches that freedom is something that is not earned, but rather something that is freely given. If we truly did have to earn our freedom, then not one person here on earth would be free. Because of sin that has entered into this world, we have all lost our right to freedom of any kind, even freedom to life.

The power of sin is the most powerful captor that exists and it has broken any entitlement to liberty and freedom, but by God's grace He has made a way for us to walk in freedom from sin and it's consequences.

Freedom -- as a whole -- is not the choice of captives, but the choice of the one who gives freedom. The good news is that Jesus holds our freedom, and He offers it freely to all those who come to Him. Our freedom is not found in a constitution, not in our rights, but in Jesus Christ Himself, who bought our freedom with the price of His own blood.

Here are eight scriptures that assure us that we can indeed find freedom in Jesus Christ.

Psalms 118:5. "Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free."

Psalms 146:7-8. "The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous."

Isaiah 45:13. "'I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set my exiles free, not for price or reward,' says the Lord of hosts."

Jeremiah 15:11. "The Lord said, 'Have I not set you free for their good? Have I not pleaded for you before the enemy in the time of trouble and in the time of distress.'"

John 8:31-32. "So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, 'If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'"

John 8:36. "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Galatians 5:1. "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery."

Galatians 5:13. "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
