'The Voice' season 9 spoilers: Missy Elliot, John Fogerty, Brad Paisley, and Selina Gomez added

 NBC

The ninth season of NBC's popular singing reality competition "The Voice" is set to begin next month, which means that the excitement about the show is steadily rising. One of the things that fans are looking forward to in season 9 is seeing the new set of legendary musical mentors who will help the resident coaches with their respective teams.

According to reports, coaches Adam Levine and Pharell Williams will get the help of classic rock icon John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater and hip hop legend Missy Elliot, who will share their expertise to their respective teams.

Levine is a self-confessed classic rock fan, which could mean that working with Fogerty will be a breeze for him and his team. Meanwhile, Elliot has been working with Pharell for quite some time already, and their impressive rapport during all their collaborations could be a great advantage for his team.

On the other hand, award-winning country singer Blake Sheldon will be supported by fellow legendary country artist Brad Paisley to give advice to his team, while returning coach Gwen Stefani will reportedly get the support of pop sensation Selena Gomez to hone the singing prowess of her team.

Paisley could be a welcome addition to the singing competition since he had his own experience in judging talents after he appeared on ABC's "Rising Star" last year. Meanwhile, Gomez could offer valuable advice to the members of Stefani's team while providing additional glitz to the already star-studded show.

Gomez's fan base could help the competition's declining ratings after show producer Mark Burnette realized that "The Voice" season 8 received the lowest ratings over the show's entire run. The popularity of the "Love You Like a Love Song" singer could definitely do wonders in terms of its audience ratings.

However, reps from NBC and the said mentors have yet to comment about the validity of reports.

"The Voice" season 9 is set to premiere on Sept. 21.
