'The Strain' season 2 premiere date in summer 2015: Show renewed by FX

FX has continued to spread the virus by making an official announcement last August that "The Strain" will be renewed for its second season, which will air on the small screen in summer 2015.

According to CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf, the network has put their trust on the cast and crew of the horror drama television series, along with Guillermo del Toro himself as writer and director and Carlton Cuse as screenwriter and producer.

"It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace," Landgraf commented.

He also added, "We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale."

According to the critically acclaimed Del Toro, writing "The Strain" trilogy and being involved in its adaptation has been "rewarding" and that he looks forward to making the concept thriller come alive.

"Working with Carlton, Chuck and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes — the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species," the 49-year-old writer and director said.

Since its premiere last July, "The Strain" has already caught the attention of more than 12 million viewers as it brings to life the brutal, clever, and gruesome vampires with the aid of both religious and scientific details.

The TV adaptation of del Toro's popular horror trilogy has also put forward a distinct take on vampires, highlighting the parasites that travel from one body to another to spread the vampiric virus.

The story also follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, portrayed by Corey Stoll, as one of its main characters who gets caught in such medical obscurity that eventually turns into an unexplained horrific catastrophe. Other cast members include Mia Maestro (Dr. Nora Martinez), David Bradley (Prof. Abraham Setrakian) and Kevin Durand (Vasiliy Fet), among others.

The finale episode for "The Strain" season one entitled "The Master" was aired last Sunday, Oct. 5. As such, the second season is expected to come creeping in the summer of 2015 as it will enter its production stage this November.
