Sony Xperia Z4 release date pushed back to summer, not at Mobile World Congress 2015

Since Sony released the first Xperia Z back in January 2013, it has deliberately updated its handset every six months. In the past two years, the Japanese manufacturer used tech events like the Mobile World Congress and  the IFA to announce its devices.

Now that the MWC is just around the corner, there have been speculations that another Xperia handset is on its way. However, reports are saying that Sony will not introduce the rumored Sony Xperia Z4 at the event. Release date rumors point to a probable summer launch of the device instead. Xperia Blog stated that Sony is prepping up for a summer release of its next generation of smartphones.

Predictions say that the delay in the release is to give the Xperia Z3 plenty of time in the limelight. The Xperia Z3 was announced in September at IFA 2014 in Berlin.

Meanwhile, there are murmurs saying that Sony Mobile purposely delayed the release of Xperia Z4 due to the recent talks that the Japanese company has plans to sell off its mobile arm due to disappointing sales and low market share.

The company is now reportedly focusing on the quality of each update of the handset. This suggests that consumers may see less updates on the Xperia Z line as the company ramps up the quality of the devices. Rumors say that Sony Xperia Z4 will come in different variants consisting of a whole line of varying sizes – the Xperia Z4 Compact, the Xperia Z4 Ultra, the Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra, and the Xperia Z4 Music.

Some models are rumored to feature both quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) and full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolutions. Other rumored features of Sony's flagship smartphone are Snapdragon 810 SoC, Adreno 420, 4 GB of RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, 24-megapixel back camera with dual LED flash and 12-megapixel front facing camera.

Sony will surely reveal more information soon.
