One of the legendary monsters Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) will be facing in the second half of season 3 of "Sleepy Hollow" is the Jersey Devil, the creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey.

According to TV Line, viewers will see the appearance of Dr. Japeth Leeds (Charles Aitken), a "handsome, twisted, mysteriously brooding genius," who is considered the greatest nemesis of Benjamin Franklin. The two are said to be experts in the fields of alchemy. Instead of becoming friends who shared a common interest, their fiercely competitive nature made sure that they remain antagonistic with each other for the rest of their lives.

Leeds particularly disliked Franklin, as he wished to outwit him and get the coveted title of being the best alchemist in history. His obsession pushed him to turn to dark arts, where a failed experiment resulted to an unalterable consequence. Leeds turned into the mythical Jersey Devil. He and Crane will reportedly meet each other in episode 13 of the current installment. The latter will know exactly how much the doctor suffered on his quest for exaltation. Will viewers also see the founding father once more?

If Leeds will appear in his human form, there is a good chance that the Franklin storyline will come up. This means Franklin may return to Sleepy Hollow to finish what they started. It will be interesting to see if he and Crane team up to take down Leeds once he transforms into his evil alter ego. Meanwhile, season 3B will also answer the million-dollar question on whether Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) survived her harrowing ordeal.

Showrunner Clifton Campbell addressed the question in his recent interview. Although he refused to say if Abbie was still alive, he said that there were several clues in the series that would help the fans guess her fate.

"The astute viewer will notice that there have been things about the tree, the lair and the story we've been telling in the first half [of the season] that will suggest what fate Abbie may have met. It's going to be very daunting and very illuminating when we all realize what happened to her," he said.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 3 midseason premiere airs on Friday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
