Nvidia's Pascal GP104 specs: New GPUs will be smaller, more dense

Reports are coming in that NVIDIA is putting together resources to create a new generation of Pascal GPUs from Taiwan to Bangalore.

A website called Beyond 3D claims that they have exclusive news from the inside on the GPU. The GP104 chip reportedly has 2,152 pins contained in a 37.5×37.5 mm package, much smaller than its predecessor, the GM204. The previous and existing GPU has only 1,745 pins and a 40x40 mm container.

With this, it seems that the website is claiming that the upcoming Pascal GPU will have a smaller size within a larger density of pins. If this report proves to be true, Nvidia will most likely not be using an HBM with the GP104 given that a die of that size would not be able to contain the number of pins that the company plans to put in the new GPU. Speculations point to a GDDR5 or GDDR5X to replace the HBM.

The GP104 will be a mid-range component much like th GM204 that was used in the GeForce GTX 980.

Alongside the GP104, a GP100 GPU is also being developed and will be slightly bigger with a container measuring 55 mm x 55 mm, slightly larger than the Maxwell-based GM200.

Nvidia Corporation is an American-based technology company based in Santa Clara, California. The company is most known for developing Graphics Processing Units and processors for many devices. The company services companies all across the globe.

Pascal is still months away from perfecting the GPUs, and the company has not released official announcements on the specifications of the upcoming GPUS, so rumours should be taken with a grain of salt.

Nvidia is scheduled to release a new set of Graphics cards sometime in the end of 2016, so users will be hearing pretty soon on more official news from the company.
