Nexus 5 2015 rumors: Huawei to make Googles 2nd-gen Nexus 5?

Reports of a second generation Nexus 5 has been bubbling at the start of the year, and has reached its crescendo owing to Google stopping its Nexus 5 listing in Google Store. And now, apparently, the 2015 version of the Nexus 5 will be coming out of China.

In a report by GizmoChina, it names China-based Huawei as the next Google partner in developing the second generation Nexus 5. According to GizmoChina, it was confirmed by Kevin Yang, Director of China Research at iSuppli, a leading market research company, in his Weibo account that Huawei will be entering a partnertship with Google for the next Nexus device. It then speculates that Google chose Huawei to curb the competition against Xiaomi, which has been dominating a sector in Asian markets since the launch of its Mi smartphone line up. With the debut of the Mi4, it was touted as the fastest Android phone, and the rumoured Mi5 is said to top the speed of its predecessor.

To solidly grasp the market from Xiaomi, and other competitors like Samsung's current S6 and upcoming Note 5, Xperia Z4, and LG G4 Note, the next Nexus 5 phone would need to upgrade into a new Snapdragon processor, or use Huawei's proprietary Kirin technology.

Whatever chipset the new Nexus 5 may use, Huawei would also need to build a device that is balanced between a premium look and above-average performance. Also, the next Nexus 5 would need to graduate from the plasticky look and mid-range specs that made the original Nexus 5 stand out when it was launched.

Other specs of the rumoured next-generation Nexus 5 is that it will have an aluminium housing, a 5.1-inch display with quad HD resolution, at least 3 GB of RAM, a 20 MP-minimum back camera and a 5 MP front one, and a decent-sized, 3000 mAh battery.
