Nexus 10 2 release date October 14 before Apple's iPad 5/iPad Mini event: Leaked image shows Google tablet manufactured by Asus

Now that Apple's big iPhone 5C/5S event is over, Google is ramping up for its Nexus event, scheduled to be some time in mid-October.

The latest rumors suggest that Google will launch the second-generation Nexus 10 2 tablet, just a day before Apple's purported iPad 5/ iPad Mini event slated for October 15.

Google may be wanting to get a head start before Apple by claiming some spotlight with its Nexus 10 2 tablet. The original Nexus 10 tablet proved to be highly successful in the tablet market, providing an alternative to Apple's iPads.

The Nexus 10 2 will most likely be manufactured by Asus this year, and not Samsung. The first-generation Nexus 10 tablet was originally manufactured by Samsung, but its smaller cousin, the Nexus 7 tablet, was manufactured by Asus.

U.K. tech retailer PC world recently tweeted a leaked photo of a device that looked like a 10-inch Nexus tablet with Asus branding, which confirms that the device will indeed by manufactured by the Taiwanese company. The 16GB version of the tablet is expected to retail or £350, which is a significant price hike from the original model.

The Google Nexus 10 2 is expected to be available online via Google Play after its official unveiling in mid-October, and will launch with the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.4 KitKat operating system, which is also rumored to be unveiled at the event.

The price of the first-generation Nexus 10 models have been slashed in recent months in the lead-up to the 10 2 launch. Retailers will be looking to clear its stock of the Nexus 10 model in preparation for the 2nd generation tablet.

The original Nexus 10 launched in November last year. The latest Nexus 10 is expected to feature Snapdragon 800 processor, a hi-resolution display with 2560x1600 resolution, and 2 GB RAM. The size and weight of the tablet is expected to be reduced with an 8.9mm frame and it may also come with a possible MicroSD slot, which is absent in all Nexus models, and support LTE.

The current Nexus 10 features a 10 inch display with 2560 x 1600 resolution in Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It is available with 16GB or 32GB internal storage, 2 GB ram, and features Dual-core A15 processor. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
