'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD' season 3 spoilers: Ward accepts Coulson's challenge to a one-on-one fight in episode 9

Coulson goes after Ward in the upcoming midseason finale of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." ABC/Marvel

Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) will accept Director Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) challenge to a one-on-one battle in the upcoming midseason finale of the ABC series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

In "Closure," the promo shows the S.H.I.E.L.D. leader telling the sneak that it is time to end everything and settle scores. Ex-agent Ward is seen holding a sniper rifle, but it appears he will not use it but will fight Coulson man-to-man instead.

Ward had been working as a double agent, pretending to be a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. to further the interests of Hydra. When he eventually felt that his dual role was in danger of being exposed, he packed his things and hightailed to his true employer.

Now that S.H.I.E.L.D. knows about his betrayal, they will not rest until they exact revenge, most especially Coulson. Ward has been focusing all his energy in taking him out and his anger is finally on the brink of exploding. Coulson will find the mole and make him pay, as well as Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe), who ruined his relationship with Rosalind Price (Constance Zimmer) and made other Inhumans suffer.

Coulson's personality will reportedly take a drastic turn, as his dark side brims over the surface. He is even shown trying to choke an agent for failing to kill Ward. Another scene features the S.H.I.E.L.D. director telling Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) that he is about to do certain things that is not right for him to do.

Gregg has previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the midseason finale would be featuring at least two shocking twists. Is Coulson going rogue one of them?

Viewers would have to wait for next week to find out if Coulson's temper will get the better of him. "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" "Closure" will air on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
