'Mario Kart 8' DLC release date: Kalimari Desert will be out soon

"Mario Kart 8" for the Wii U Nintendo

It has been some time now since the last two DLC packs for "Mario Kart 8" were released on the Wii U eShop and many fans speculated that DLC support for the game was over. However, a recent Twitter post from Nintendo UK suggests otherwise.

As reported by Nintendo Life, the tweet showcases a screenshot of the Kalimari Desert from "Mario Kart 64" and a caption that reads "Good things come to those who wait," suggesting that fans who have stuck loyal to the franchise even when no DLC pack has been released in recent months will be delighted to hear of brand new DLC content.

While this might suggest that the Kalimari Desert track is going to be offered as new content for the game it is also possible that a brand new DLC pack focusing on classic tracks from "Mario Kart 64" and other classic games in the franchise will be launched soon.

Fans point out that the first two DLC packs did not offer content from the classic games as their content were based on "Animal Crossing" and "The Legend of Zelda." This third DLC pack may bring back some of the classic tracks, weapons and more.

The Kalimari Desert track did reappear in "Mario Kart 7" for the 3DS and it is likely that this revamped version is the one that "Mario Kart 8" will utilize, albeit with an HD facelift.

No official release date for the new content has yet been announced but it is speculated to come out within the year given that the NX is launching in early 2017.

Once a third DLC pack is released "Mario Kart 8" will be the largest game in the franchise with the most content to boast. However, this third DLC pack may also be the last as Nintendo shifts their direction to focus primarily on the upcoming console, the Nintendo NX. Fans speculate that a new "Mario Kart" game will launch for the NX next year.
