Jeremy Lin news: Dallas Mavericks could bring in Lin if Monta Ellis opts out

Though there is no certainty on where Jeremy Lin would end up next season, one team may be deeply interesting in the Harvard University handout who is currently in limbo with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Dallas Mavericks could make a serious run at Lin and it may happen if they are unable to re-sign Monta Ellis.

Ellis is set to be a free agent and sources say that the 10-year NBA vet will looking at several options aside from sticking with the Mavs.

The Mavs could find themselves with a gaping hole in the point guard position should that happen. The Mavs are not expecting Rajon Rondo to return, that would leave only JJ Barrea at the point guard position. Such would mean a dent in the rotation of coach Rick Carlisle and Lin could be an option.

Of course there are other players they can consider as well such as Ty Lawson of the Denver Nuggets. Lawson is the subject of trade rumors and the Mavs could opt for him though it may entail more money.

Salary has been one issue that is hindering Lin from being signed up by teams. Critics believe that should Lin agree to a pay cut then he has a better chance of being considered by most teams. Lin is currently valued at $8 million and many feel that he is overprices.

Lin got the huge pay check back in 2012-13 when he signed a three-year deal with the Houston Rockets worth $25,123,938.

If the salary angle is resolved, Lin could likely be a Maverick next season. But that doesn't shoot down rumors of him possibly landing in Denver where former coach Mike D' Antoni is a serious contender.

D'Antoni is credited to Lin's success and a reunion could be good for the two, not to mention for the Mavericks.

Lin has seen his career plummet and his issues with coach Byron Scott and Kobe Bryant didn't help, leading to the belief that Lin's days with the Lakers are over.
