'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: Claire Danes reveals Carrie Mathison's quest to find answers

It is still a few months away before the sixth season premiere of "Homeland" happens, in January 2017, but fans of the show are already looking forward to what's next for Carrie Mathison.

During the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Women of Homeland event at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York City, actress Claire Danes talked about how her character Carrie will deal with her past and her future when the series returns for season 6.

"She's stateside; she's living with her daughter," Danes said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "This idea of atonement is still playing. She's accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she's still wrestling with that. She's on her meds! She's probably mentally capable."

Danes also revealed that Carrie will try to comfort herself by searching for answers about her fate in various places such as the hospital chapels and beside Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) hospital bed. According to the actress, Carrie will go into an intense conscience diving when season 6 begins.

"I think it's a lot about policy and politics and how the CIA participates in that, because it does take place in America. I think that's the most relevant, exciting happening right now. It's wild what's occurring and it's worth investigating, so that's what we'll be doing," the actress added.

Meanwhile, Showtime CEO David Nevins revealed that the network has already renewed "Homeland" for seasons 7 and 8.

"Just because I'm not thinking that far ahead doesn't mean Alex Gansa and his team aren't," Nevins said in a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter. "It's changing itself pretty dramatically each season. I think more than most, this show has an open-ended expiration date. That said, I've been focused on getting this deal done and not really asking what happens beyond this deal."

The network is expected to reveal the exact premiere date of "Homeland" season 6 in the coming days.
