MTV has announced during the Television Critics Association Summer Press tour that its teen drama series "Finding Carter" will return for the second half of season 2 early October.
Cartermatt reports that the show will pick up after Carter (Kathryn Prescott) learned the shocking truth that her father has a secret son with Lori (Milena Govich). The revelation will purportedly throw her world upside down, as she comes to terms with the mysterious brother she never knew, while trying to make sense of what her life has become. Carter will be seen caught in the middle of staying with the person she thought was her mother and going to her real family.
The teenager will decide to drop out of school and find a job as a bartender. There, in a different environment, she will begin to see the situation from a different angle. Carter will be involved with "a racy, underground party circuit," a perfect antithesis to her former life. She will even try to bring her old friends to the brand-new world she has discovered. Everything appears to be fine, until the moment she finds herself needing her family.
The first half of season 2 ended with Lori being brought to trial for kidnapping Carter. During the trial, Lori's teenager son, Ben, took the witness stand and claimed that his biological father was David (Alexis Denisof). Carter's alleged brother was apparently the fruit of Lori and David's illicit affair.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Emily Whitesell discussed the shocking twist. She said that prior to the trial, Ben was not aware that David was his father.
"He didn't know. He was subpoenaed. They'd been looking for him for a very long time, and Lori will claim she'd been looking for him for years, so he'll have his own resentments about everything."
As for how the revelation of David's affair would affect the Wilson family, the EP said Elizabeth (Cynthia Watros) would not play the wronged wife.
"Elizabeth knows what to be supportive about and what not to be; we're not going to rehash the "Oh, you slept with her" thing. But she'll have feelings about what he should do, and we'll see she's resentful of certain things."
"Finding Carter" will return Oct. 6 at 10:00 p.m. on MTV.
