When Google first rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, many were disappointed to find it plagued with bugs and issues, even after it went through the developer preview phase before it was released to the general public.
The bugs affected the users' smooth and pure Android experience. Users complained mostly about the installation and Wi-Fi issues in the handsets, with some saying that they could no longer connect to their Wi-Fi network. This left them with no choice but to revert back to the previous Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. The bugs also affected the sales of the new Nexus devices since the Nexus 6 and 9 come with Android 5.0 out-of-the-box.
The tech giant rolled out the Android 5.0.1 OS update that was supposed to fix the problems, but it ended up causing more issues in the handsets. Some users reported that a massive memory loss happened when they installed the latest OS update. The next update, Android 5.0.2, was spotted in the original Nexus 7, but it has not yet been rolled out to other devices and the company has not disclosed when it will deliver it. In the meantime, the company resolved the issues by releasing a minor update aimed at fixing the memory loss.
A major Android update, Android 5.1, is reportedly scheduled to be launched in February, according to Android Pit. The update will be widely released to major devices this summer, sometime in June or July.
Similar to previous Android updates, Nexus devices will be the first units to get a taste of the official software update, followed by Google Play Edition devices. The delivery to Android-based handsets depends on the manufacturer as these manufacturers often top the OS with their customized user interface.
Android Pit also included a changelog for the alleged Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update. Below are some of the bug fixes that will be included in the firmware update:
- Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
- General improvements in system stability
- Improved RAM management
- Fixes for sudden app closures
- Improved battery management
- Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
- Issues with wireless connections fixed
- Problems with Okay Google function solved
- Notifications problems solved
- Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
- Other improvements and changes
- Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
