Xiaomi to try luck in laptop segment?

Xiaomi has reached a lot of mileage in the smartphone segment with its line of models. Now, it looks like the Chinese company is planning to take it up a notch.

The laptop segment is a niche that Xiaomi could soon be invading. With mobile device usage obviously reaching a feverish pitch as of late, Xiaomi could very well test the market as well as it adds notebooks to its roster of products, which already boasts of smartphones and some TVs.

But in order to do so, Xiaomi may need a bit of help. And the one that could possibly end up aiding them is technically a rival brand — Samsung.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the two smartphone makers are currently holding talks. Samsung is a good company to offer key components to Xiaomi's laptop dreams, offering displays and chips essential in coming out with reliable notebooks, which the consumer electronics market could very well be interested in.

The move could be Xiaomi's ticket to possibly giving Apple's popular MacBook Air some competition. Although such outlook seems a bit far-fetched as Xiaomi would have to come up with something dastardly to pry into that market bubble, the company has to start somewhere with big risks included.

Assuming they do push through, the planned laptop's operating system comes into play. Could Xiaomi tie up with Microsoft as well with perhaps the Windows 10?

Remember that Microsoft has the same intentions in mind with its Microsoft Surface Pro series, although the operating system is certainly of a different niche.

Seeing how they have been able to intrude the smartphone market and tilt the balance, the new plans of Xiaomi seems interesting. It will be a long journey; but with the right specs and pricing, they could succeed.
