Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 release date: Device spotted in 3C Quality Certification Center, to launch Sept. 22

Xiaomi Mi Pad [Xiaomi]

The Mi Pad 2 is already overdue as it's been over a year since its predecessor — the first ever tablet from Xiaomi — was released. But it looks like there is no such thing as late for the company as there are rumors that it is finally ready to refresh its Mi Pad lineup.

The slate was spotted in China's 3C Quality Certification Center, which apparently approved its release. GSM Arena notes than when a product passes through the agency, it is extremely close to being released to the market. Given that, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 could be out and about very soon.

It is believed that the device, which carries the model number 2015716 as seen in the certification agency's website, will be introduced in Xiaomi's event on Sept. 22, where the company will unveil its new smartphone, the Mi 4c.

There is not much information on the specs of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 but WCCFtech reports that it will be much larger than the first Mi Pad, which had a 7.9-inch display. The publication claims that the upcoming tablet will be as big as 10 inches. The phenomenal change in size could be the reason why the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was categorized as a notebook instead of a tablet by the 3C Quality Certification Center, as the aforesaid publication pointed out.

The possibility of the new Mi Pad being a notebook is not to be discounted either, knowing that Xiaomi has been exploring more possibilities to expand its brand and product portfolio, even getting assistance from manufacturer Foxconn to enter the notebook market.

It is also expected that the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will be powered by an Intel processor. There is no word on which model it will be, but it is expected that this will help the company make the device much more powerful and compatible with both Android and Windows.

Speaking of which, rumor has it that Xiaomi is planning to slot in Microsoft's OS on some of its devices, with the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 expected to be one of those.
