Xiaomi Mi Max release date, specs, features: Xiaomi confirms new phablet to arrive May 10 together with MiUI 8

Xiaomi teases the new Mi Max phablet. MiUI forums

Xiaomi has confirmed that the latest flagship offering, the Mi Max phablet, will be unveiled next month. In addition, there are other Xiaomi offerings that will be revealed on May 10.

According to an announcement posted on the MiUI forums, the May 10 launch will also be the debut of the MiUI 8. While Xiaomi has yet to confirm it, it seems that the launching vehicle for the new MiUI will be the new phablet.

The MiUi is Xiaomi's homegrown platform interface for its devices. As the for the new version, the company stated, "Evolving from the first version in 2010, MIUI has served as the operating system for over 150 million across the globe. I am sure all of your devices have updated to the latest version of MIUI 7, no matter you are using stable or developer ROMs."

Having the new MiUI on the Mi Max will be one of the highlights of the May 10 launch, but the spotlight may be on the phablet itself. Although Xiaomi has yet to provide firmed-up details on the Mi Max, supposed leaks and teasers suggest that the flagship will feature the same design and build as the current flagship, the Mi 5. However, instead of being a "Plus" version of the Mi 5 with top tier specs, the Mi Max is said to be a mid-range device with a number of above-average internals. Gadgets by NDTV says that based on leaks, the Mi Max will sport a 6.4-inch display with full HD resolution. Under the hood, the massive phablet will be powered by a Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. Other reported specs include 16 GB of onboard storage, expandable via microSD; as well as 16-MP camera at the back and a 5-MP selfie snapper.

Meanwhile, aside from a new MiUI and the Mi Max, the May 10 launch event is also said to introduce the Mi Band 2.
