WWE rumors 2016: Roman Reigns title contention postponed for now

For a time, it seemed like the WWE was hedging all its bets in developing Roman Reigns as its next big superstar, but in one swift motion, the former WWE champ is losing matches and seem to be on a downward trajectory.

According to a report by Inquisitr, this may still be an after effect of Reigns' violation of the WWE Wellness Policy, which resulted in former champ's 30 day suspension.

While there was plenty of debate as to what will happen to Reigns upon his return, the questions were finally answered when he lost at Battleground 2016, one of the WWE's biggest new PPV events where he lost a major triple threat match to Dean Ambrose.

While many would have expected the ex-champ to bounce back from loss on Raw when he faced off with Finn Balor for a chance to square off with Seth Rollins for the first WWE Universal Championship, Reigns also lost the match to Balor, putting him out of contention for a title for the time being.

Based on a report by Cageside Seats, the WWE management is not looking to build up Reigns for title contention anytime soon.

As a matter of fact, it seems that the opportunity afforded to Reigns is now being passed on to Balor, who has emerged as a new face in one fell swoop.

While it is possible that all these losses will push Reigns to become a heel, there is also a possibility that the WWE is only looking to work him up to a redemption storyline. After all, he has established connections to the storylines of the WWE top guys at one point or another.

But as with before, Reigns may need to be patient once again until he is again given his big shot at the belt.
