Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting Andre Berto in a couple of weeks in what is billed as his last fight as a professional boxer. Aside from that, Mayweather is believed to be on course to level the 49–0 boxing record held by Rocky Marciano.
Although Berto claims he will not make it easy and vows to come out with a good show, such is sadly not shared by boxing critics and fans. Berto is considered as a fighter on the downswing and chances are the outcome would pretty much be a Mayweather victory.
Fast-forward to 2016, it remains to be seen if the undefeated American boxer would continue to fight. Many believe that he will, considering that picking Berto is a poor way to exit the sport in style.
Besides, many have retired and returned. Just take the case of Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga who are set for a rematch on Aug. 29. Both are well over their 40s and are now on the verge of returning to the ring while also looking to fight more.
Hence, Mayweather's case is no different. There is a big chance that the unbeaten boxer will fight again and his probable opponent will be Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao claims that with a fully healed shoulder, he would put on a better show compared to the fight last May 2. That could probably be true; but then again, he might want to take into consideration that Mayweather would still not engage and would continue to fight defensively.
Not to take anything away from the Pac-Man, the point is, a rematch would probably render the same result unless he thinks of a way to solve the Mayweather defensive matrix.
How about the money involved? It would be foolish to think that the fight would earn the same record revenue. Then again, even a chunk of that fight purse is already rich. So if a rematch does materialize, like it or not, there would still be people watching it, although the number of spectators and viewers would go down.
