For many Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) pundits, the stunning knockout (KO) win of Holly Holm was considered an upset. Apparently many were under the impression that the only thing to expect was how long Holm could last, same as with her previous opponents.
But Holm had other plans and maybe Rousey and Holm's critics should have looked at the 34-year-old fighter's past accomplishments.
Holm is a former boxer and kick-boxer and looking through that list, one could see that the Preacher's Daughter is no pushover. The records weren't as immaculate as the one she now holds in the UFC but the standings were undoubtedly daunting.
She was a well decorated fighter in the boxing scene, touting a 33–2–3 record that included two wins by KO and 3 draws. A record like that is something to marvel at but, of course, many would say that boxing is far different from UFC fighting.
So let us shift to her first transition to kickboxing. Although her exposure there wasn't much with only three fights to show, she wasn't perfect as well. She suffered a KO loss at the hands of Trisha Hill in 2003 but came back strong four months after with a first round KO of Alisa Cantwell.
To date, she is spotless in the UFC but unlike other fighters in her division, she wasn't as vocal or overhyped. And for that many hardly noticed her past achievements, a long list of accomplishments that didn't matter because she was going up against well, Ronda Rousey.
So now, people are digging into her profile and finally giving her the respect she deserves. From her fight history dating back to boxing, kick-boxing, and then mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting, it is obvious that Holm is pretty much experienced and deadly.
She knows how to take a hit and apparently knows how to unleash one. Rousey learned those the hard way and now she may want to go over Holm's past accomplishments.
Holm was hardly given a chance and now she is on the top of the world. She is open to a rematch and, apparently, this will take place once Rousey is up for it. Could the outcome be different?
