Today marks the first time that developer and publisher CD Projekt Red launches paid DLC for the current title in the highly acclaimed "The Witcher" franchise.
The current iteration for the series, "The Witcher 3," will be unlocking its first-ever paid DLC, "Hearts of Stone." Although the base game "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" itself is already a massive open-world exploration role-playing game, the new DLC will greatly expand both content and story for the current title.
"Hearts of Stone" will add quests and missions after the events in "Wild Hunt." In the expansion, the main protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, will hunt down Olgierd von Everec, an immortal bandit. The storyline will add at least 10 hours' worth of gameplay for players in choose-your-own-adventure missions and quests, as well as new characters.
According to the post on the official US PlayStation blog, one of the unique features of "The Witcher 3" that will come with the new expansion is that players will now be able to customize their characters through Runewords and Glyphwords. With "Hearts of Stone," these enchantments can be used to strengthen both defense and offense for players, applying Runewords and Glyphwords in weapons and armor gear.
Not all players can access the upcoming expansion, apparently. In a report by PlayStationLifestyle, game requirements to unlock the expansion include having at least a level-30 character and an updated "The Witcher 3" game with the latest patch 1.10. In addition, downloading the new expansion will require additional memory depending on the platform, according to a tweet by Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red community manager.
Those who have yet to see the new expansion can purchase "Hearts of Stone" for $10 as stand-alone DLC. Meanwhile, the expansion is also part of the $25 "The Witcher 3" Season Pass, which will also include a second expansion, "Blood and Wine," that will launch early next year.
