'The Winds of Winter' release date news: Sixth book still delayed; fans may miss 'Game of Thrones' season 7 and 8 to avoid spoilers

Some fans of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga have had enough of the delays, and are now planning to boycott the penultimate and final seasons of HBO's "Game of Thrones" until Martin releases the sixth book — "The Winds of Winter" — hopefully by next year.

According to a report by Parent Herald, while Martin's deal with HBO has allowed him to disclose the saga's ending with showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, the duo is now tasked with fleshing out the remainder of the series without the guidance of a source material.

Weiss and Benioff already had to do this for the sixth season pending Martin's completion of the sixth book in the saga.

According to the report, some fans could be planning to boycott the show to save themselves from major spoilers that will reveal how the saga would end. So far, the show has already surpassed the events of the last book released in the series when "Game of Thrones" aired its sixth season early this year.

But when is "The Winds of Winter" truly going to be released with the internet running wild with theories and fake dates? It can be recalled that Amazon France mistakenly published an unofficial release date which was quickly debunked by Martin's publishers.

Now, there are reports that the release of "The Winds of Winter" is being canceled since there has been no official release date set for the book yet.

Martin has earlier said that he will not be making announcements on the book until it is finished and explained that his schedule and age has been affecting the pace of his writing, which he earlier admitted was already slow in the first place.

Pending official announcement from his publishers, though, it would be safe to believe that everything is still in going according to schedule and that true to his word, Martin will make the announcement once the manuscript is good and ready.
