'The Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers: Matt dies in the three-year time-jump

Will Matt die in the upcoming second half of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7? Facebook/CW

With all the hype centered on Stefan (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) being trapped inside the Phoenix Stone during the fall finale, viewers tend to forget the only character who remained human throughout the past seven seasons.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Matt (Zach Roerig) is the only one whose fate has not been teased in the promo for the second half of season 7. Does this mean he will die within the three-year time-jump? The team behind the hit The CW series has already revealed that the show will start off next year with quite a jump. Executive producer Julie Plec was quite mysterious when she told the website that Matt alone was not seen in the flash forward.

"I don't know if that's a good thing," she said.

If Matt's future is still unsure, Tyler's (Michael Trevino), however, appears to be taking a good turn. Fans of the werewolf will be excited to learn that there will be more scenes featuring their favorite character in season 7B. Meanwhile, co-executive producer Caroline Dries spoke with TV Line regarding the controversy that the series' newest cast bears a striking resemblance to Nina Dobrev, who played Elena. "TVD" will be welcoming Leslie-Anne Huff ("NCIS") as she portrays Rayna, a spiteful vampire hunter who "returns to the world of the living after being taken out by her enemies."

Fans cannot help but notice Huff's likeness to Nina, as they air their thoughts on social media. Dries, however, cleared the issue, stating that any similarities was "just a coincidence." She said that although she has not met the actress in person yet, the most of the staff members say the two are quite different.

"She's a great actress, and she's perfect for the role. We'll get to see her present-day story and then everything will click when you see her in the future," the executive producer said.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will return on Jan. 29, 2016, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
