A new order is coming to Mystic Falls when the hit The CW series "The Vampire Diaries" returns for the second half of season 7.

TV Line reports that the Salvatore brothers will brace themselves for the arrival of the head of a mysterious organization named Alex. The character is described as "beautiful, charming, and cocky researcher," but what she is set out to do in the series remains unclear. "The Vampire Diaries" has tapped "American Horror Story" alum Mouzam Makkar to play the role.

Executive producer Caroline Dries offered too little information about Alex during her interview, but she did say that she has a connection with Enzo (Michael Malarkey), Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) forever best friend. With the vampire being a wild card in the series, this does not give much hint on where her loyalty would be in the series.

"As he's trying to find his place in the world, she comes in and says, 'Let me help you out with that.' Is she good? Is she bad? What's her bigger agenda? We'll pull back her layers as the season goes on," she said.

Meanwhile, the official synopsis for episode 10 mentions Bonnie (Kat Graham) doing her best to save Damon, as a new menace threatens to pull him under. During the midseason finale, the Salvatore brothers decided to avenge their mother's death but their attack plan backfired. Julian (Todd Lasance) succeeded in trapping Damon inside the Phoenix stone. In the upcoming episode, this will force him to relive the most gruesome events of his past.

Bonnie, being the trustworthy friend that she is, will race against time to rescue Damon, before he succumbs to the effects of the mystic stone. Will she be able to pull him out before it becomes too late?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will return on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
