"The Crown" season 3 will have a decidedly shaken-up cast, and it's no wonder — with the series fast-forwarding through decades, neither the actors nor the makeup artists will be able to keep up with the aging cast of characters.

Director Philip Martin announced that the whole cast of the show will be changed in a conversation with the audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on Oct. 8.

Claire Foy will be stepping down from the throne, as she is to be replaced in her role as the iconic Queen Elizabeth II. Season 3 of "The Crown" will be entering the 1970s and showrunner Peter Morgan previously said that there is only so much that can be done.

"I feel that when we reach 1963-64 we've gone as far as we can go with Claire Foy without having to do silly things in terms of makeup to make her look older," Morgan told ScreenDaily. "She can't help the fact she's as young as she is."

For her part, Foy does not seem too down about letting go of the role. She even hinted about who might take her place.

"I know who's doing it and I'm not telling you," Foy said during a press conference for her film "Breathe." "It's really exciting and great and amazing!"

Season 3 will also witness the introduction of a new character: Camilla Parker Bowles, the current wife of Prince Charles outside of the TV screen.

Before that, of course, comes the season 2 premiere. "The Crown" will begin in 1956 with the Suez Crisis and end in 1963 with the resignation of Prime Minister Howard Macmillan. It will be available for streaming via Netflix on Friday, Dec. 8, at 3 a.m. EST.

"The Crown" season 3 will most likely premiere in late 2018 or early 2019.
