Noah (Dominic West) is facing time in prison for the death of Scotty (Colin Donnell). At the center of all the chaos, however, is Helen (Maura Tierney), the one person who can exonerate her ex-husband. Will she finally reveal that it was her who hit Scotty in "The Affair" season 3?

During the season 2 finale, the trial against the New York-based writer was closed after he admitted that he was the one driving that fateful night Scotty died. Noah chose to keep Helen's involvement in the accident a secret. In truth, she was the one behind the wheel. She and Noah exchanged places when he felt he was not fit to drive in a narrow, dimly lit road. Noah just heard from fiancée Alison (Ruth Wilson) that the person he considered his daughter was not his.

As he was upset, he asked Helen, who consented to go home with him, to drive his car. She took her eyes off the road for a split second when Noah reached out to hold her hand. That was when the car hit the then drunk Scotty. Helen and Noah were on the brink of reconciliation that night. The fact that they were going home together was a clear indication that Helen has already forgiven him for having an affair and destroying their family.

The reason that Noah chose to take all the blame for the accidental death is perhaps to make up for all the hurt he gave Helen in the past. That for once in his life, he will not let his selfishness hurt the people he love. Helen has suffered a lot when his illicit relationship with Alison was revealed. Their divorce proceedings drained her of any respect she has for herself. Even if Noah meant well, seeing him behind the bars for a crime he did not entirely commit is bound to weigh on her. At the end, it is fitting to expect that she will stay on Noah's side and be his strength to face what are to come.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, actor Joshua Jackson, who plays the role of Cole, talked about the upcoming season and what fans can expect for the series. He said that season 3 would depict the resolution of events after Scotty's death.

"The Affair" season 3 will premiere sometime in 2016 on Showtime.
