The Tesla Model S P85D can now be upgraded to the P90D and also gain a new "Ludicrous Mode" which enables the four-door sedan to go from 0-60 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds. This means that the car is now the fastest Tesla Model S in terms of sheer acceleration.

According to a report from Motor, the average retail price for the P85D is around $148,000. The additional costs to upgrade its battery for the P90D ranges from $3,000 (according to a report from AutoMobileMag) to $4,100 (according to Motor). Adding the 90kWh battery pack makes the Tesla Model S P90D the highest performance model in the Tesla S lineup.

Getting the "Ludicrous Mode" will cost another $10,000 to $13,500. This customization allows the vehicle to obtain a higher maximum amperage of 1,500 watts. This is what helps the vehicle raise its 0-60 mph acceleration by 5 percent but it also means it can hit the quarter mile mark in just 10.9 seconds.

There is also the option to upgrade the single-motor, 278 kW Model S 85 into the Model S 90 by adding in the 90 kWh extended range battery. It won't be as powerful as the P90D but it still goes from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds.

According to a report from AutoMobileMag, current Tesla Model S P85D owners might want to wait a while before upgrading because the company is still planning on releasing another upgrade by 2016 which will increase the acceleration rate and power by another 5 percent.

However, new car owners looking forward to a powerful and fast sedan are advised to go straight ahead with the Tesla Model S P90D update. All-in-all, the new vehicle will cost an average of $160,000 to $165,000.

Along with the launch of the Tesla Model S P90D, the company is also releasing a RWD version of the Model S 70D for $5,000 below the original SRP. With this inclusion, the Tesla Model S lineup includes the 70, 70D, 85, 85D, P85D, 90, 90D, and P90D, all with their own different variations depending on power and extra accessories.
