'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: Rowena, Mary help sons' nemesis

A still featuring Mary Winchester from "Supernatural" season 12 episode 2 "Mamma Mia" Katie Yu/The CW

Mothers will have a key role as "Supernatural" season 12 moves forward. Rowena and Mary could prove crucial to the mission of the Winchesters, Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Castiel (Misha Collins) to take down Lucifer.

According to News Everyday, Rowena (Ruth Connell) will  step up and help her son Crowley in his fight to take down Lucifer, who is now inhabiting a new vessel.

The new vessel in question is an aging rock star named Vince Vicente, who will be played by Rick Springfield. According to the report, Lucifer will enjoy his new vessel as he basks in the adoration of the people and enjoys the feeling of being worshipped.

However, because of his extreme power, it is difficult for him to occupy one vessel for a long time because of the limited capacity of an ordinary human to host a demon of Lucifer's level. It is said that Rowena and Crowley will use this knowledge of his weakness to attack him.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported Cas may team up with Crowley to exact revenge against Lucifer after what happened in the last season.

For the upcoming episode — episode 3, entitled "The Foundry" — Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) will be joining her boys in a good old fashioned hunt and proving her mettle as a member of Team Winchester.

Episode 4 — entitled "American Nightmare" — on the other hand, will lead the brothers to a devout religious family living off the grid, wherein the children will find out a huge secret that the parents are keeping from them. It is expected that Dean will also have to come to terms with Mary's latest decision, according to a synopsis posted by TV.com..

"Supernatural" season 12 airs every Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
