Now that Sam (Jared Padelecki) is locked up in Hell together with Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), Dean (Jensen Ackles) will have no option but to face The Darkness (Emily Swallow) alone when The CW series "Supernatural" returns after the winter break.
During the fall finale, viewers saw that the younger Winchester brother unfortunately got trapped in the underworld with none other than the Prince of Darkness himself. Sam went to see Lucifer in Limbo to ask for the latter's help in defeating Amara. He and Dean asked Rowena (Ruth Connell) to make the meeting possible, as they believed that Lucifer could do something against The Darkness that they as humans would not be able to. When her summoning spell stopped working, Sam found himself inside the cage with Lucifer.
Lucifer then revealed that it was not God but he who had been sending visions to Sam. As it looks like they will be sharing that coop for quite some time again, Dean will better be thinking of a different tactic to take down Amara. At the same time, he will try to come to terms with the connection that always seems to exist between the two of them. Will Amara's words that she and Dean will not be able to hurt each other prove to be true? If that is the case, how then will she be defeated, if Dean is the only one left to continue the fight?
Speaking to TV Line, Padalecki talked about the Winchester brother's plight in their quest to find a means to defeat The Darkness. He said that it has been very difficult for the pair, as there were twists and turns where it was not sure they would get out alive.
"The brothers are very committed to fighting alongside each other, to getting rid of The Darkness and trying to figure out what it's going to take and how to do it, going through all alleys and channels," the actor said.
Meanwhile, The CW has released the first promo video for the midseason premiere of the series. In "The Devil in the Details," viewers see what is supposed to be a celebration of Christmas by Crowley and Rowena. Crowley, who is wearing a cute baby suit, has just received a Funko Pop Vinyl figure of Sam. Afterwards, Lucifer, dressed in a Santa costume, comes barging in the door and greeting everyone a happy Christmas.
"Supernatural" season 11 will return on Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
