'Supergirl' season 2 renewal update spoilers: EPs 'positive' to get renewal, talk plans for season 2

Will "Supergirl" season 2 happen? CBS

While "Supergirl" season 2 isn't official yet, the finale for the first season calls for a renewal wit new mysteries and potential storylines opened up for the show to tackle in the future.

In the final seconds of the "Supergirl" season 1 finale, a Kryptonian spaceship pod came hurtling from the sky. When Kara checks who the passenger was, she appeared positively surprised.

Of course, the people behind "Supergirl" are not very keen on spilling the beans right now. Being extra coy about the cliffhanger, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly that whoever it was in the pod will "definitely shake things up" in "Supergirl" season 2.

"It's an important character, and they'll play an important role in season 2 ... Again, I don't want to give too much away, but it'll be cool. The fans are going to be excited," he teased.

Although it's easy to think that "Supergirl" is setting the stage for the arrival of a very famous Zor-el that goes by the name Superman, executive producer Ali Adler stated in a Hollywood Reporter interview that "right now, we're just telling Supergirl's story. We'll see where that takes us."

As for a "Supergirl" season 2 renewal, Adler urged fans of the show "to be positive." She also believes that "everyone at CBS wants this show to last," which hints that "Supergirl" season 2 is already in the pipeline. According to Blastr, news about the renewal could be made next month.

As for what to expect in the next season if there will be one, Kreisberg teased that Kara and Cat's working relationship will evolve with "adult things" brought into play, Hank will be "embracing his Martian Manhunter-ness more" and so will other people.
