Since the release of "Super Mario Odyssey" is getting close, developer Nintendo dropped a new trailer that reveals a massive gameplay overview. Although it is only over five minutes long, it teases crucial details regarding the character's next impending adventure — from the gist of the story to the new game mechanics.
First off, players get a gist of the "Super Mario Odyssey" story. The villain is the criminal Bowser, who kidnaps Princess Peach again in an attempt to marry her. He also ruins Mario's cap, so Cappy will take its place to help the protagonist. This hat compatriot assists Mario in piloting the Odyssey ship, collecting Power Moons, and more importantly, in saving the princess.
From here, players can see what the famous hat is capable of, whether defeating the opponents with a hat spin attack or serving as a jump platform for Mario to get to new areas. It can also help him swim, get to other unreachable locations and get around faster. Aside from the new story and the unique abilities of Cappy, the trailer also gives a glimpse of the worlds that are to be explored in the game.
Another change in the game is the outfit of Mario. He will no longer be stuck in his iconic blue costume. Players can now purchase new getups, goods, hats, and more for the character in the various Crazy Cap stores. By using regional coins, they can unlock the new outfits.
The "Super Mario Odyssey" trailer also reveals a new photo mechanic, the Snapshot Mode. Players are allowed to pause the game and choose the best image of Mario and send it out however they wish, with complete filters. There are other unannounced mini-games to discover, but the new gameplay trailer displays jump roping, toy car racing, and foot racing with Koopas.
With "Super Mario Odyssey" premiere date quickly approaching, the trailer is a great way to catch players up to speed on what Nintendo is cooking up in Mario's new adventure.
"Super Mario Odyssey" is expected to be out on Oct. 27 on Nintendo Switch.
