Super Bowl 2016 preview, date, schedule: Broncos' Peyton Manning, Panthers' Cam Newton collide for football's grandest prize

The stage is set, as new champions will be crowned in the National Football League (NFL) on Feb. 7, when Levi's Stadium becomes a battleground for the clash of the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.

Carolina, led by franchise quarterback Cam Newton, is aiming to capture the franchise's first ever Super Bowl trophy.

The Panthers have yet to win a championship since they started to play in the NFL in 1995, although they have won two National Football Conference (NFC) championships in the 2003 season, and in the current season.

Playing the Panthers, especially with the momentum they are riding, is a stiff task since they only lost once this season and that was in Week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Besides that, the Panthers are playing great football and may have been challenged a few times in the regular season, but are always finding ways to earn the victory.

In charge of the Panthers' major success is Newton, who is again bound for an impressive season.

In 16 regular season games, the 26-year-old had 296 completions for 3,837 yards and a career-best 35 touchdowns, throwing only 10 interceptions which is the least since he was drafted in 2011.

But Newton must be ready to take on the Broncos' defense which stopped New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game.

The Broncos defeated the reigning champions with a defense that team general manager John Elway said is the best he has seen.

Along with Denver's defensive unit, another concern for the Panthers is veteran quarterback Peyton Manning.

Manning, who is a five-time NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP), is eyeing only his second title when they play against the Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

Late in the season, the 39-year-old sustained a foot injury that sidelined him for six games, but he is now back and ready to lead the Broncos.
