While Sony Mobile has not yet confirmed any details about its upcoming lineups, a number of speculations have already appeared online about the follow-up to the company's successful Xperia Z series. According to rumors, the Xperia Z6 might make an appearance early next year, possibly at the Mobile World Congress 2016.

Observers have speculated that the Xperia Z6 will make its debut next month, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016. According to Tech Times, one indication that Sony already has the Xperia Z6 waiting to be unveiled is that key specs of the lineup have already appeared online. Another sign that the Xperia Z6 will reportedly be making its appearance soon is Sony Mobile arranging a press conference for the 2016 CES, and the company has already sent out the invites for the said event.

However, industry followers think that Sony Mobile might still be in the last stages of development of the Xperia Z6, and a January unveiling might be too soon. In a report, GSM Arena stated that hardcore fans and followers of Sony Mobile are not expecting much from the CES. Rather, the industry follower said that is it more likely that confirmed details will be unveiled together with the new lineup the month after, at the Mobile World Congres in Barcelona. The MWC 2016 is slated to start on Feb. 22.

Meanwhile, according to Tech Radar, the new flagships from Sony may not appear in the first half of 2016 at all. Talking with Sony's Art Director Rikke Gertsen, the industry follower stated that the art director said her department was already working on smartphone lineups for the second half of 2016, all the way up to 2018. However, there was no confirmation that the Xperia Z6 was among the lineups Gertsen was talking about as the Xperia Z6 lineup may well be already finished in the design stage and was already at the assembly phase.
