Sony Xperia Z5 Compact specs rumors, release news: Official promo image for handset leaked

A leaked promotional image for the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is now bouncing around media outlets, giving users a comprehensive look at the forthcoming flagship's rear. The photo was obtained by Dutch website Techtastic, who also claims to have gotten hold of the actual unit itself.

The photo shows the handset donning the same design of the previous iterations, something that adds to the authenticity of the shot. Techtastic did not post a photo of the handset that it said it has actually seen, although it pointed out some changes on the design layout.

The site says that the buttons on the side of the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact are placed further down and that the hollow taken up by the smooth-edged power button in the previous versions is where a fingerprint sensor resides. This contradicts previous leaks of the smartphone which hinted that the new biometric security system is being embedded in the home button.

The image is said to be one of the many pictures taken during Sony's promo shoot for the device that will assist the Japan-based tech company in officially launching the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact along with the Xperia Z5 during the IFA event in Berlin on Sept. 2.

The rest of the specs of the much-awaited Compact flagship include a 4.7-inch 1080p display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. It is expected to offer up to 3 GB of RAM, although there's no word on the storage options.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is allegedly getting a 20.7-megapixel camera sensor on its back, most likely Sony's latest ExmorRS model. The tech firm is pairing it up with an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter.

IFA is set to kick off on the first week of September, which means that the tech world is close to seeing the new Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.
